Meet Your Community Council

The Gilmerton and District Community Council is made up of a team of committed local residents who volunteer their time to represent the views of the community. Elected for a four-year term in early 2025, we are here to listen to your concerns and work with the City of Edinburgh Council and other organisations to improve our area.

Our Purpose

  • Represent your views: We gather and express the views of Gilmerton residents to the City of Edinburgh Council on a wide range of issues.

  • Influence decisions: We have a statutory right to be consulted on local planning applications and can object to licensing applications, ensuring the community's voice is heard on important developments.

  • Organise and engage: We undertake surveys, produce community newsletters, and organise local events to keep you informed and involved.

Our History

Gilmerton & District Community Council was established in 2013 to give residents a stronger voice in local affairs. Our area is rich in heritage, from the mysterious Gilmerton Cove to the beautiful Drum Estate.

The Mercat Cross stands as a symbol of our community's long civic tradition, and we're proud to continue that legacy by bringing people together and working for positive change.

Over the years, we've been involved in numerous local improvements, from transport consultations to heritage preservation, always keeping residents' interests at the heart of what we do.
